President was the title of the chief executive magistrate in New Hampshire from 1784 to 1792 (President of Council, 1776-84), in Pennsylvania from 1776 to 1790, in Delaware from 1776 to 1792, and in South Carolina from 1776 to 1778. Subsequently these titles were exchanged for that of governor. The President of the French republic is elected for seven years by the Senate and Chamber of Deputies united in National Assembly.
